Sheltered Garden by H.D focuses on her hatred for the changes in nature by humans. She describes that the destructive force of nature is how the environment is best seen as. As from BreakingNewGrounds, they explain; “The poem begins with the speaker stating that although her world is beautiful, it is made of nothing but repetition. There is no variety to her life, nor risk, danger, or true reality.” If this were to happen, it would bring a new beauty that allows her to forget the illusion that others fall for. The sense of place feels like it’s around her local area. The amount of pink flowers fits the description of household gardens, fruits kept from their branches where they belong.

In comparison to the poem and my experience with nature, the setting that H.D had wished for is a sight I was able to appreciate with my own eyes. It connects perfectly as it was around my local area at least where I went to high school. The entire school ground was surrounded by meadows and forest lands. You can easily get lost picking from the multiple trails that would appear on every turn. The true beauty that makes you easily forget about the illusion humanity casts to the world.

A certain spot in the meadow outside my school was alongside a small dam. Two stone slabs with a small opening that allowed a sliver of water to flow through at a time. This stream would flow between the crevices of the Earth creating a waterway. On the other side of the dam was a pond, including from time to time ducks would be seen cherishing the water they traverse through. This experience felt solitary because I was completely surrounded by nature. I could have taken a 3-4 minute walk in either direction and still be lost in the snapshots my eyes would take for me. Alongside with the view of my school being nonexistent, it erased the communal aspect when I was around my classmates. It’s quite the spectacle when I can see the meadows around me from the school, but I can’t see the school when I’m within the pattern of trees.

Good points here about solitude and sheltered vs wild. No need for an analysis of the poem from a sample essay; just your thoughts for now and we’ll start working with sources soon.
